Logging in

How to sign in to the Whisker.io web portal, recover a forgotten password, change your password, turn on two-factor authentication, and set the HMI PIN code used at on-site panels.

To sign in to the mobile app, see Installing and signing in. The app uses the same username and password.

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://www.whisker.io.
  2. On the Whisker.io™ - Login panel, enter your Username and Password. Your username is not your email address.
  3. Click Login.

If two-factor authentication is on for your user, the page now asks for a code (see The two-factor step). If your organization requires an HMI PIN code and you don't have a valid one yet, it asks you to set one (see Setting your PIN at sign-in). Otherwise you land on the map of your account's locations.

The footer of the login panel has two links:

Link What it's for
Forgot Password? Click here! Self-service password reset (see below)
No account? Register for one Sign-up for a new company. People joining an existing account are added by that account's administrator (see Managing users). Questions: sales@d6labs.com

How long you stay signed in

A normal sign-in lasts one day, after which you sign in again. View Only logins, which are meant for wall displays, stay signed in on that browser (see View Only users).

The two-factor step

If two-factor authentication (2FA) is on for your user, after you click Login the page shows 2FA Authentication: Enter the 6 Digit code sent to your phone number, a 2FA Code field, and Submit and Re-Send 2FA Code buttons.

  1. Check your phone for a text reading "Whisker.io: \<code> is your 2FA Login Code. Do not share this code with anyone."
  2. Type the 6-digit code into 2FA Code and click Submit.
Delivery Text message to the Phone Number on your user record
Sent from +1 (405) 253-5370. Save it as a contact so the codes aren't filtered
Code lifetime 10 minutes
Re-send Wait at least 30 seconds between presses of Re-Send 2FA Code

If you see "Invalid 2FA Code", use the code from the most recent text (an older code may have expired) or press Re-Send 2FA Code.

Note

"Unknown Phone Number Error - Contact support@d6labs.com" means the mobile number on your user record is missing or not a valid 10-digit (or 11-digit, starting with 1) number. An administrator can correct it in Control Panel → Account Users → Edit User.

Setting your PIN at sign-in

If your organization requires HMI PIN codes and yours is missing or no longer fits the required length, the login panel asks for one after your password (and 2FA code) are accepted. The message tells you why, for example "Your organization changed its PIN Code settings, so your previous PIN Code is no longer valid." or "An administrator reset your PIN Code."

  1. Enter a PIN of the length shown, twice.
  2. Click Save PIN and Sign In.

You are not signed in until the PIN is saved. See Your HMI PIN code for the rules.

Forgot your password?

  1. On the login page, click Forgot Password? Click here! The Whisker.io™ - Forgot Password panel opens.
  2. Enter either your Username or your Email. You don't need both.
  3. Click Reset Password. You'll see "Password Changed. You will receive your new password in your email."
  4. Open the email with the subject Whisker.io password reset. It contains a temporary password, which works for one sign-in only.
  5. Sign in with the temporary password. A Reset Password panel asks "Please enter your new password."
  6. Enter the temporary password in Old Password, your new password in New Password and Confirm Password, and click Reset.

Return to sign in. at the bottom of the Forgot Password panel takes you back.

Change your password

  1. In the top menu, click Control Panel and open the My User Info tab.
  2. On the Password: row, click Change.
  3. In the Change Password dialog, enter the new password in New Password: and again in Re-Type New Password:, then click Confirm.

Passwords must:

  • be at least 7 characters long, and
  • contain at least one letter and at least one number.

Tip

Administrators who hold the Add/Edit Users role can set another user's password the same way: Control Panel → Account Users → Edit User → Password: → Change.

Turn on two-factor authentication

With two-factor authentication, signing in needs a code texted to your phone as well as your password, so a stolen password alone can't get into your account.

Warning

Before turning 2FA on, check that the user's Phone Number is a valid mobile number (10 digits, or 11 digits starting with 1). From then on, signing in needs a text to that number: a missing or wrong number locks the user out until an administrator corrects it.

  1. Go to Control Panel → My User Info.
  2. Tick the Two Factor Authentication box. The text beside it changes to (Enabled).
  3. Click the Save button that appears under Contact Info:. Ticking the box alone does not save it.
  1. Go to Control Panel → Account Users, expand the user and click Edit User.
  2. Tick Two Factor Authentication.
  3. Click Save Changes.

The code step applies from the user's next sign-in.

Your HMI PIN code

Your HMI PIN Code is a short number, separate from your password, that you enter at on-site Whisker.io panels and in the WhiskerHMI PC application. It is not used to sign in to the web portal or the mobile app.

Set or change your PIN

  1. Go to Control Panel → My User Info.
  2. On the HMI PIN Code: row, click Change. The text beside the button shows whether your PIN is set and whether it meets your organization's requirement.
  3. In the Change HMI PIN Code dialog, enter the PIN in New PIN: and Re-Type New PIN:, then click Confirm.

Only you can set your own PIN. Nobody, including administrators, can see it.

PIN rules

  • Digits only.
  • If your organization requires PIN codes, the PIN must be exactly the length it has chosen (between 4 and 9 digits). Otherwise any length from 4 to 9 digits is accepted.
  • Easy-to-guess PINs are refused: one digit repeated (1111), a straight run (1234, 4321), a repeated pair (1212) and very common PINs.
  • To use a PIN at a panel you must also belong to the role assigned to Local Device Login (see Roles and permissions).
  • After 5 wrong PINs, your PIN is locked for 5 minutes. Repeated lockouts last longer, up to 30 minutes. The lock applies to your PIN only; other people can still use theirs.

Administrators set whether PINs are required, and their length, in Account settings. If you forget your PIN, ask an administrator to reset it (see Managing users); you'll set a new one the next time you sign in.

Log out

Click Log Out at the right end of the top menu, then click Logout in the WhiskerIO - Logout dialog. Always log out on shared computers: otherwise the next person to use the browser is still signed in as you.
