Contacts and users¶
Alert contacts are the people (and phone numbers and email addresses) that alerts are sent to. Users are the people who can sign in to Whisker.io. The two lists are separate: a contact does not need a user account, and a user only receives alerts if they are also a contact on the alert or its schedule. See Alert contacts and Managing users for the full picture.
Alert contacts¶
Open the menu (☰) and tap Alert Contacts. Each contact shows the name, Email: and Cell:. Pull down to refresh the list.
Adding and editing contacts needs the account's Add/Edit Alert Contacts role. Without it, an Access Denied message names the role you need. See Roles and permissions.
Add an alert contact¶
- Tap Add Alert Contact (the + button).
- Fill in Contact Name, Contact Email and Contact Cell. Enter the cell number as a mobile number that can receive texts.
- Tap Save.
The new contact can now be added to alerts (see Alerts) and to schedule groups in the web portal (see Schedule groups).
Edit an alert contact¶
- Tap the gear on the contact.
- In Edit Alert Contact, change Contact Name, Contact Email or Contact Cell.
- Tap Save.
The change applies to every alert and schedule the contact is on.
Note
The app cannot delete an alert contact. Use the web portal.
Users¶
Open the menu (☰) and tap Users. Each user shows their name, email address and roles. Your own entry is marked You.
Add a user¶
You need the account's Add/Edit Users role.
- Tap Add User (the + button).
- Fill in the required fields: First Name, Last Name, Username, Email and Password. Mobile Phone is optional, but needed for two-factor codes.
- Under Roles, tick the roles the user should have. See Roles and permissions.
- Tick Force Password Reset if the user must choose a new password when they first sign in. They need to do this on the web portal.
- Tick Two-Factor Authentication to require a texted code at each sign-in.
- Tap Save.
If a required field is empty, the message Please fill in all required fields appears.
Tell the new user their username and password, and point them to Installing and signing in.
Edit a user¶
- Tap the pencil on the user.
- In Edit User, change the name, Username, Email or Mobile Phone.
- Change Roles, Force Password Reset or Two-Factor Authentication as needed.
- Tap Save.
You can always edit your own details. Editing other users needs the Add/Edit Users role. Without that role, the Roles and Force Password Reset settings in your own entry are shown but can't be changed.
Tip
Before you turn on Two-Factor Authentication, make sure the user's Mobile Phone is a mobile number that can receive texts. Otherwise they can't sign in.
The app cannot delete a user. Use the web portal (see Managing users).
Change a password¶
- Tap the pencil on the user, then tap Change Password.
- When you change your own password, enter your Current Password first. An administrator changing someone else's password does not need it.
- Enter the New Password and type it again in Confirm New Password. It must be at least 8 characters.
- Tap Change Password.
Password changed successfully confirms it. If you changed your own password, use the new one next time you sign in, on the app and on the web portal.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Please enter your current password | Fill in Current Password |
| Password must be at least 8 characters | Choose a longer password |
